Collection Challenges are a new type of challenge in Pokémon Go which tasks you with catching a certain number of Pokémon related to the event they’re a part of. In the case of the Unova Collection Challenge, you’ll be hunting down Gen 6 Pokémon. There are a number of ways to track down the Pokémon you need for the Unova Collection Challenge, including raids, hatching eggs and completing field research tasks exclusive to the Unova Celebration event. On this page: Once you’ve completed the Collection Challenge by catching all of these, you’ll be rewarded with a number of items and progress for your Elite Collector medal. The Unova Collection Challenge is running alongside the Unova Celebration Event and will be available from Tuesday, 5th January at 10am (local time) to Sunday, 10th January at 8pm (local time). Keep in mind that the Unova Collection Challenge will disappear forever once the event ends, so, if you want those rewards, keep an eye out for the required Pokémon! Collection Challenges can be found on the ‘Today View,’ which is accessed by pressing the field research button (the little binoculars) in the left-hand corner of the screen. You may need to scroll to your left, depending on whether or not you’ve been looking at your current field or special research tasks. After accessing ‘Today View,’ you’ll find a list of all the Pokémon you need to catch to complete the Collection Challenge. Catching a Pokémon in the Collection Challenge rooster will cause it to be ticked off from this list, helping you keep track of which ones you have and haven’t caught. It’s important to note that evolving a Pokémon does not count towards the Collection Challenge; evolving a Lillipup into a Herdier, for example, will not help you complete the Unova Collection Challenge. These Pokémon are:
Snivy Tepig Oshawott Lillipup Herdier Roggenrola Solosis Ferroseed Blitzle
It’s important to remember that you must catch each of these Pokémon to complete the Unova Collection Challenge; meaning that evolving a Lillipup into a Herider will not count towards the challenge. Once you’ve caught all nine Pokémon, you’ll be rewarded with 3000 Stardust, 25 Poké Balls and 5 Rare Candy.
Take advantage of the Spotlight Hour on Tuesday, 5th January at 6pm to 7pm (local time) to easily tick Lillipup off your Unova Collection Challenge list. Don’t forget to use Incense to attract Pokémon to your location. If you’re lucky, then might see some of the Pokémon you need for the Unova Collection Challenge. Placing a Lure Module at a PokéStop is also a great way to bring the Pokémon to you. If you’re looking for a specific Pokémon, then try using a Glacial, Magnetic or Mossy Lure Module depending on the Pokémon’s type.
Keep an eye on the raids taking place around you, because Herdier is appearing in three-star raids and all of the Unova starter Pokémon - Snivy, Tepig and Oshawott - will be in one-star raids. Remember - it’s now possible to raid remotely! If you’re having trouble tracking down a Roggenrola, then try collecting and hatching some 5km eggs, because, during the Unova Celebration event, these rock-type Pokémon will be added to that egg pool. Pokémon on the Unova Collection Challenge list are appearing as rewards for completing the exclusive Unova Celebration field research tasks, which you can learn more about below.
We, however, suggest completing them during the event, because it will help you complete the Unova Collection Challenge. Here are the field research tasks for the Unova Celebration event:
Catch 5 Pokémon reward - Snivy, Tepig or Oshawott encounter Hatch 2 Eggs reward - Ferroseed encounter Use 5 Berries to help catch Pokémon reward - 1200 Stardust Use 3 Golden Razz Berries to help catch Pokémon reward - 3500 Stardust
