This Gen 2 Galarian variant was originally released during the 2021 Halloween event, while both Galarian Slowpoke and Galarian Slowbro arrived earlier in the year during the A Very Slow Discovery event.
Below you’ll discover how to evolve a Galarian Slowpoke into a Galarian Slowking by fulfilling a specific requirement.
On this page:
To add a Galarian Slowking to your Pokédex in Pokémon Go, you first need to have a Galarian Slowpoke.
To evolve a Galarian Slowpoke into a Galarian Slowking you must have 50 Slowpoke candy and, while the Galarian Slowpoke is your buddy, catch 30 psychic-type Pokémon.
It’s only after filling this specific requirement that the option to evolve into Galarian Slowking will be unlocked.
Slowpoke candy can be collected by walking 3km with any Slowpoke as your buddy or by using Pinap Berries when catching any type of Slowpoke.
Fulfilling the psychic-type requirement, however, might be more complex depending on which biomes are near you.
For this reason, we recommend focusing on this challenge when psychic-types are appearing more frequently in the wild thanks to an event, such as the 2021 Halloween event, or during either a Community Day or Spotlight Hour focused around a specific psychic-type Pokémon.
The error connected to evolving Galarian Slowpoke into Galarian Slowpoke has now been resolved according to Niantic Support on Twitter.
The Season of Mythical Wishes continues with the Winter Holiday event, which has brought Mega Glalie to Pokémon Go. Don’t forget to partake in the new Go Battle League season.
Elsewhere, be sure to use Daily Adventure Incense for the chance of encountering Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos and Galarian Moltres.
Possible Fast Moves:
Acid (Poison) Confusion (Psychic) Hex (Ghost)
Possible Charged Moves:
Future Sight (Psychic) Shadow Ball (Ghost) Sludge Wave (Poison)
In keeping with the other Galar variants of the Slowpoke evolution tree, Galarian Slowking’s typing is poison and psychic-type, rather than the traditional water and psychic-type. The change in Slowking’s colouring reflects this type change, with the purple representing the poisonous power this Pokémon now has. It’s appearance also differs from the Gen 2 Slowking, with the Shellder now encompassing its entire head and the frill about its neck growing longer to resemble a cape. According to the Pokédex entry for Galarian Slowking in Pokémon Sword, the evolution process increased the Shellder’s intelligence to such a degree that it now controls Slowking. This a reversal of the typical Slowpoke to Slowking evolution where the Shellder’s toxins increase Slowking’s intelligence. Good luck adding Galarian Slowking to your Pokédex!
